Corn Fritters

Corn fritters are not only easy to make, they can also be tailored to your liking. Customize the recipe to by adding other ingredients like bacon, cheese, fresh herbs, or spices.

Ingredients For Corn Fritters

  • Whole Corn Kernals
  • Flour
  • Oil
  • Milk
  • Egg
  • Baking Powder
  • Butter
  • Seasonings: salt, pepper, sugar

How To Make Corn Fritters

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and black pepper.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and melted butter.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined. Gently fold the corn kernels into the batter.
  4. Heat the oil in a larege skillet over medium heat. Makes sure there is enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, allowing each fritter some space to expand. Fry until golden brown and crispy to your liking.
  6. Transfer the cooked corn fritters to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

What Are Corn Fritters

Corn fritters are fried batters of corn filled dough. Most people associate them with Southern cooking but they originate with Native Americans. These days, they are usually fried. This is something the Native Americans did not do. They’re kind of similar to hush puppies, but hush puppies use cornmeal.  

What Type Of Corn To Use

This recipe uses cooked whole corn kernels. How you get your kernels is up to you. Canned corn, frozen corn (thawed first), and feel free to use fresh or frozen corn in this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces whole corn kernals
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
