Skillet Shrimp Boil

Skillet shrimp boil is an alternative way of cooking a shrimp boil…on the stove-top! Inspired by a Southern shrimp boil, this tasty seafood recipe comes together quickly and can be tailored to your liking. Using just a few ingredients & done in 30 minutes, this family friendly meal that can be served any day of the week.

Ingredients For Skillet Shrimp Boil

  • Shrimp: 1 pounds of shrimp. This can be shell-on, peeled, tail-on, tail off, etc. 
  • Old Bay Seasoning: store-bought or make your own
  • Smoked Sausage: Your preferred smoked or cooked sausage. Use an andouille sausage for more flavor.
  • Potatoes: 1 pound of red potatoes, diced or chopped depending on the size. 
  • Corn: 15 ounces canned corn, drained & rinsed.
  • Onion: One small onion, diced.
  • Butter: To took the food. You can also use your preferred oil.

How To Make Skillet Shrimp Boil

  1. In a large skillet, heat the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the diced potatoes. Cook approximately 10 minutes until soft. Season with salt & pepper as needed. Once soft, remove the potatoes and set aside.
  2. Add the smoked sausage & onion. Cook 3-5 minutes or until the onion is soft. Add more butter if needed.
  3. Stir in the corn & shrimp. Cook a few minutes until the shrimp is no longer pink.
  4. Add the potatoes and the Old Bay seasonings. Mix until the seasoning is evenly distributed. Cook a few minutes until the potatoes are heated through.

    What Is A Shrimp Boil?

    You will find seafood boils throughout the South, with different regions having their own unique spin. For example out of the Carolinas there’s low-country boils. In Louisiana you’ll find more crawfish boils. A shrimp boil is a one-pot recipe consisting of shrimp, potatoes, sausage, and corn. While traditionally boiled (hence the name), this version is done on the stove-top.

    FAQs & Tips

    • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. 
    • I like to use baby red potatoes for this recipe but any size red potato or the potato of your choice will work. 
    • Get creative with the seafood. Substitute the shrimp for crab or even a fish like salmon.

    Ingredients

    I have made this recipe (minus the Spinach) several times. I love it, my family loves it; especially my teenage grand daughter, the people I made it for also enjoyed it. This recipe is such a hit. Thank you for sharing.
