What Type of Sherbet to Use

Sherbet ice cream has a fruity and refreshing taste and is lighter than traditional ice cream. It’s also often used in floats and desserts and adds a burst of flavor and color. I like to use the rainbow flavor. You can also use lime, pineapple, orange, or whatever you like.

What Type of Soda to Use

  • Lemon-Lime Soda: Sprite or 7-up is a popular choice because it adds citrus flavor without overpowering the other flavors.
  • Ginger Ale: It has a mild ginger flavor and a subtle sweetness.
  • Club Soda: Club soda is carbonated water without any added flavorings or sweeteners. It can be used for a less sweet and more neutral base, allowing the sherbet and fruit juices to shine.
  • Fruit-Flavored Soda: Orange or pineapple soda can enhance the fruity notes of the punch.

How to Sweeten the Punch

You can add sugar, simple syrup, or sweetener to the punch and adjust to suit your taste. You can also use fruit juices that are higher in sugar and meet the level of sweetness you are looking for.

Can You Prepare it in Advance

  • Combine Most Ingredients in Advance: You can combine the sherbet and fruit juice in advance. Mix them together in a large container or punch bowl and store it in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve.
  • Add Soda Just Before Serving: To preserve the carbonation and fizziness of the punch, it’s best to add the soda just before serving. This helps maintain the refreshing quality of the punch.
  • Keep It Chilled: Sherbet punch is best served cold, so make sure the punch is well-chilled before your event. You can even chill the punch bowl or container in advance.

How to Keep it Cold

  • Add Ice to the Punch Bowl: Place ice cubes or an ice block in the punch bowl before adding the punch mixture. This will help keep the punch cold without diluting it too quickly.
  • Individual Serving Stations: Consider serving the punch in individual cups or glasses with ice. This allows guests to keep their drinks cold and reduces the risk of the entire batch warming up too quickly.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz frozen juice concentrate I used 6oz limeade and 6oz orange juice.
  • 52 oz lemon lime soda or ginger ale I used 7-up.
  • 1 quart sherbet ice cream

Instructions

  • Add the frozen juice and soda to the punch bowl or pitcher and stir.
  • Top with scoops of sherbet. You should notice foam due to the fizz of the soda and the texture of sherbet. You can skim the foam off the top if you wish. The longer the punch sits, the more this will subside. Some also love the fizz at the top!
  • Serve chilled.

Notes

You can double or triple the recipe by doubling the ingredients, etc.
