What Are Pork Chops

Pork chops are a versatile cut of pork from the loin of the pig. The loin is a muscle that runs from the shoulder to the rear of the pig. All pork chops are from this area but they can come in different cuts like loin rib chops, shoulder shops, and sirloin chops. Pork chops can be bought bone-in or boneless. You can use either in this recipe. Boneless pork chops are the same as a bone-in, just with the bone removed and the fat trimmed. Boneless pork chops are leaner because of this. While some people will say that bone-in pork chops have more flavor, personally I don’t have a preference. For this recipe I used boneless but if you use bone-in, you do not need to adjust the cooking time.

What Type Of Apples To Use

Use your preferred apple but keep in mind that what type of apple you pick may alter the taste. For a sweeter dish, use a sweet apple like fuji, gala or honey crisp. If you use granny smith or pink ladies, expect a slightly tarter result. I used a large gala apple for this crockpot pork chops, apples & onions recipe.

FAQs & Tips

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Don’t like pork? Use chicken! Chicken thighs are a good substitute for the pork chops in this recipe.
  • I used a small 3.-5 quart slow cooker. Looking to feed a larger crowd? Double this recipe and use a larger 5 or 6-quart.

Hey there! Excited to try this - for a 6 qt slow cooker, do I need to double this recipe?

Thank you so much

If you're using a 6-quart, you do not need to double to recipe but you can if you want because there will definitely be room for more. Enjoy!

What a great recipe. I found this recipe yesterday and made it for dinner. The chops came out moist and tender. I cut the recipe in half as it was only for 2 people. Cooked on High for 2 hours. It's a keeper and I will be making it again.

How does the time need to be adjusted if you are using thin sliced pork chops?

Good question. I would reduce the time by 30 minutes or so to ensure the meat does not overcook and dry out. Enjoy!
