Ingredients For Sweet Potatoes

  • Sweet Potatoes: Peel and cut the sweet potatoes into large slices or chunks.
  • Seasonings: The seasonings is a mixture of brown sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, salt, and pepper. 
  • Pecans: Use your favorite nut. I like pecans with this recipe but other suggestions include walnuts or almonds.
  • Orange Juice
  • Butter

How To Make Sweet Potatoes In The Slow Cooker

Making sweet potatoes is very easy when you use an appliance like a Crock-Pot (slow cooker). 

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, salt, and pepper.
  2. Pour the orange juice into the bottom of the slow cooker.
  3. Add half of the potatoes the slow cooker. Pour half of the brown sugar mixture on top. Add the remaining sweet potatoes and top with the remaining seasonings.
  4. Add the butter on top.
  5. Cook HIGH 2-3 hour or low 4-6. You’ll know it’s done when the sweet potatoes are soft.
  6. Top with pecans before servings.

  • Leftover sweet potatoes need to be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will keep for up to 4 days. 
  • If you overcook the sweet potatoes, turn them into mashed sweet potatoes! If you do, you may need to add more butter along with some milk.
  • To make this more festive, substitute half of the cinnamon with pumpkin pie spice.

  • 3 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled & sliced into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup butter, sliced into pieces
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Salt & Pepper (to taste)
