  • Seasonings: paprika, dried thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper 
  • Oil 

How To Make Southerb Baked Chicken Thighs

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. In a small box, mix together the paprika, thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper. 
  3. Drizzle the oil over all the chicken pieces. Using your hands, coat each piece of chicken evenly with the spice mixture. 
  4. Place the chicken thighs in a large baking dish, skin side up.  
  5. Cover and bake for 60 minutes or until the internal temperature 165°F.

Using Other Cuts Of Chicken

This Southern baked chicken thigh recipe is best made with dark meat. That meand you can use bone-in or boneless thighs, legs, or wings. While bone-in breasts may work okay, I do not recommend boneless, skinless chicken. They will dry out during the cooking time.

FAQs & Tips

  • Rub the chicken with oil or melted butter before adding the seasoning. 
  • Store leftover chicken in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. 
  • Arrange the chicken in a single layer in the baking dish, do not crowding the chicken or overlap. This will result in uneven cooking.
  • For extra crispy skin, remove the foil and finish the chicken under the broiler for a few minutes. Keep an eye on the chicken so it doesn’t burn.

  • 2 tablespoons oil of your choice (or melted butter)
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt (or more)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • t teaspoon pepper
