Warm weather means grilled chicken wings are in regular rotation around the country. From backyeard barbecues to Sunday dinners, chicken wings are a beloved food for good reason. Versatile and healthy, grilling chicken wings means the sky is the limit. Serve the wings with basic seasonings or slather on a good sauce. Grilling is a convenient way to cook chicken wings, especially during warmer months when you want to use your outdoor grill.

How To Grill Chicken Wings

  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  2. Pat the wings dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the wings with the oil of your choice, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Toss until all the wings are evenly coated.
  4. Place the prepeared wings on the preheated grill. Grill for approximately 20 to 25 minutes, turning frequently.
  5. Cook until the wings reach an internal temperature of 165°F and are crisp to your liking.

What Are Chicken Wings

Chicken wings are cut the a chicken’s shoulder. You can purchase a whole chicken wings or wings already separtated in two: the flat & the drumette. Chicken wings are dark meat so they have more flavor and a slightly fat then a cut like chicken breasts. Are you team drums or team flats? Personally, I enjoy both!

Using Other Cuts Of Chicken

The great thing about this recipe is that you can use it with other cuts of chicken. In place of chicken wings, substitution suggestions include chicken legs, thighs, and breasts.

  • Serve the grilled chicken wings favorite sauce, like Buffalo, BBQ, teriyaki, or ranch. 
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Flip the wings frequently during the cooking process. This will help ensure the wings cook evenly. 
  • If you plan on adding a sauce to the grilled chicken wings, wait until the last few minutes brush it on. This will keep the sauce from burning.
